The Munchkin coat
may
be short or long and can come in many colorations and patterns.
Personally,
we like the short coat, for we feel that it shows off their short legs
the best. But, we love our long-haired Munchkins too.
As for the
colors of
the coat, our initial breeding program was geared toward Dilutes.
Yet while working with this color breeding program, we have had a few
pleasant
surprises -- namely, the Color Point. With a repeat breeding, "Mukaluk,"
our very special Tortoiseshell with White 4 1/2 pound Domestic
Shorthair,
delivered two Color Point with White female kittens. We were not
expecting this color but are very pleased with it. This
coloration
coupled with the sweet temperament and people loving orientation, has
been
by far the most sought after Munchkin companion.
In working
toward our
goals, we have discovered some beautiful colors our Munchkins have to
offer.
The following is a list of some of our resulting colors and patterns:
Color
Point
- The basic color is confined to the face, ears, legs,
and
tail. The lighter body color should correspond to the point
color.
A Color Point may have solid coloration or tabbied coloration called a Lynx
Point. Also, a Color Point may be "with white,"
which
usually mitts the feet, marks the face, and tips the tail.
Solid
- No patterning, color sound from roots to tips. Lockets
and buttons (white spots) may appear but are not desirable on an
otherwise
solid color coat.
Tabby- Mackerel (tiger-striped),
Classic ("bull's eye"), and Marble
(swirled). The tabby coats can be "with
white" -- varying amounts of white placed on the belly, chest,
feet,
and muzzle.
Parti-Colors-
Those
coats whose base version of black is mixed with different degrees of
red,
who can also be presented "with white."
Bi-Color
- A solid color with varying amounts of white placed
mainly
on the belly, chest, feet, and muzzle with white whiskers and ear
trimmings.
